I was expecting high-tech-full-skills thievery when I chose this movie as the result of fast reading on the synopsis. It's mentioned there that these guys (almost) never failed to take, that's why they're called 'Takers'.
The first 30 minutes, I have to say I was disappointed. There's no high-tech-full-skills feature in their thievery method. Just few people randomly entered a building, then meet up in some under-construction level, changed their clothes, get themselves guns, and viola! They robbed a bank in that building in ordinary style.
And they used C4! Which is messy for sure.
But I didn't see this one coming. While I was over expecting on the thievery method, this movie gave me a soft side of thieves-cops drama. It was when Gordon Jennings (Idris Elba) visited his sister in a rehabilitation and when Jack Welles (Matt Dillon) visited his ill godson, who is his partner, Eddie Hatcher's (Jay Hernandez) son.
Thieves need money.
Cops need money.
Well, I guess that is called life.
Then came Ghost (T.I.) offering them the irresistable amount of money to take. Plan were drawn. Preparations were under go. And the plan called for another C4. Lots of them. In my opinion, this is the part where this movie is not delivering. If they are that good, they would came up with another plan rather than making a huge hole on a road.
Of course, people (read: cops) were noticing. It was so traceable. In addition to Ghost's revenge plan, everything fell apart. Cops were tracking and after them.
Again, I didn't see another soft side coming. This time was when Eddie tracked Jesse Attica (Chris Brown) in some corner. It should be Jesse who got shot. But it was Eddie. And he did it in purpose, because he wanted to die in duty. Die in duty means his family and his ill son would get full benefits. Rather than stay alive and getting the sack because he compromised a criminal and took the money in the crime scene.
Finally, Ghost was almost succeed to complete his revenge. Leaving his old partners in crime to die in the hand of Russian mobs, killed his ex girlfriend, and took all the money. But Gordon and Jack stopped him, though both were not fast enough to shoot him down. And as predicted, John Rahway (Paul Walker) came and shot Ghost down.
The end is not working at all. At All.
But this movie has one thing to tell.
Money knows no side.
