Love Letter to Habib Rizieq and Munarman, from a Survivor of Monas Tragedy *

May peace be upon both of you.

I hope I am not crossing the line when I am hoping that peace may be upon both of you. Because I know first hand that you both have no peace in yourselves. And how would I know ? From Monas tragedy, June 1st, 2008. Tragedy that I witnessed with my own eyes, in fact I was one of the victim with severe injuries myself. The attack is lead by Mr. Munarman and might have ‘known’ also by Mr. Habib. From the tragedy, I know for sure that peace is not exist inside both of you.

The tragedy cause me and several of our brothers and sisters injured badly. Physical wound may be healed, mental trauma can also be handled with therapies. But the way I see it, it is both of you that hurt so badly. I have never been seen such hatred and anger in a human. And I can’t imagine how much burden you have to carry all this time. Your hatred, your anger and violance that follow can eat you alive.

After all that you have done, violation to other citizens, validation of the violation in the name of a religion, diversion violation issue to religion issue which could cause nation disintegration, and insulting actions against Pancasila and Undang-Undang Dasar 1945 as our constitusion, I still appreciate both of you as Indonesians. Because, you can not deny it with any reason. Both of you, I, and also other survivors, we are brothers and sisters, we are Indonesians. We lived from this very land, we have the same bond, the same memory to this country. Although, we are born from different family religon background, just like you were born in Muslim family and I was born in Hindu family, just like you are Men and I am a Woman, I believe there is one thing we have in common, which is we are Indonesians.

The thing is that differences is unevitable, it is a certainty. There is nothing you can possibly do to eliminate it. Including difference between sectes in a religion, let say the one which is almost be bended, thanks to Mr. Munarman’s silly threat, and now their lives is threatened. I, personally, do not support or defending that sect, because clearly I am not the right person to give any comments about the internal religion issues. Nevertheless, the existance of that sect and your radical sect is the same. Both are having its pro and contra since a long time ago. But it is only your radical sect that ever threatening the existance of other sects, even it is proven that your group did an disturbing action to the society order and public security, also harassing the government and its leader, The President of Indonesia Republic.

Pancasila with ‘Bhineka Tunggal Ika’ slogan is the one that unite this country. Our country consist of thousands of islands, many different tribe, race and religion, can be united for many years by Pancasila. Again, this is not one thing you can deny. The very existance of Indonesia is the real prove of it. Whatever you have planned to eliminate that differences, start from diverting violance issue to religion issue with attempt to bend them until attempts to change our way of life in this country from Pancasila to a certain religon-based, is not going to be an easy way. Just like in Monas tragedy which you try to divert it into religion issue, my existance as a Hindu women, who wanted to celebrate the birthday of Pancasila in Monas at that time, who got assaulted and injured, is breaking all of your attempts of diversion. I am sure that, other than myself, there are more people who love peace and able to see beauty in differences.

The next question is, what is it with you and differences ? Why are you so scared of it ? If I am not mistaken, differences is blessing from God, according to your bible, right ?

Therefore, I suggest you to start to have some peace in yourselves. Manage you hatred and your anger in healthier ways, such as singing and dancing. I guarantee, you will find beauty everywhere. And you will find the beauty in differences which previously always set your bear on fire. Oh by the way, if you are finished with yourselves, do not forget to spread it among your group. Indonesia will be much better without hatred and violation from you and your group.

Peace and Cheers Always,

Nyoman Aisanya Wibhuti
